Israel-Jacob Uncovered

Israel-Jacob Uncovered
Marcus Lacewell
Genesis 35:10
And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.
Genesis 48:1-4
1 And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.
2 And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.
3 And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,
4 And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.
These tell that Jacob and Israel are the same person.  It shows that Israel represents the 'strength' of Jacob.  Jacob seems to represent the 'confussion' that could eventually be Israel.  It shows that Israel is in Jacob.  In fact, there is an Israel in all of us.  (In this text, it says that 'Israel strengthened himself.'  In other passages it would say that Jacob came to himself.)
Exodus 3:16-18
King James Version (KJV)
16 Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:
17 And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.
18 And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The Lord God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.
My research has led me to the conclusion that this is where many people have misunderstood.  (I speak only of my own beliefs, based on my research.)  This is not speaking of the actual place 'Israel,' but the Israel in all of us, like the Israel-Jacob in Genesis.  Instead, the Jacob, in this example, is Egypt.  If we would let Israel out of captivity, in our lives, then, and only then, we can go for the promised land.
1 Kings 11:35-37
King James Version (KJV)
35 But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand, and will give it unto thee, even ten tribes.
36 And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.
37 And I will take thee, and thou shalt reign according to all that thy soul desireth, and shalt be king over Israel.
In this, to me, Jerusalem represents Jacob.  Instead of showing us that 'Israel' is in Jacob, Jacob (Jerusalem) is in Israel.  No matter how 'rightious' we get, there always exists a 'Jacob.'
Luke 1:25-27
King James Version (KJV)
25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.
26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
My research has led me to the conclusion that Jerusalem, of Israel, only held representational importance, to God, not geographical importance.   It seems that this representation is why Jesus was not born in Jerusalem, but still in Israel.  Unlearn.

I used to read a lot of stories in the Bible that discuss about the early people. I don't know why but I felt more inspired when I am actually reading those stories. One of my favorite stories is about Samson and Delilah. There are some portions of the story that I can't seem to fully understand but I still love the fact the their story taught us that no matter how much we failed, the Lord will always forgive us and it is never too late to humble ourselves and turn to God and seek for His help. We can actually learn a lot from those stories as long as we will give our hearts and fully understand them.
